Stony Brook Community Raises Funds for Breast and Prostate Cancer Research with Support of Passionate Partner OKI Data Americas

MOUNT LAUREL, N.J., September 25, 2008

The employees of OKI Data Americas, a leading printer manufacturer, are proud to support “Walk for Beauty, Walk for Life” on Sunday, October 5th in Stony Brook, NY, which raises funds for breast and prostate cancer research at the Stony Brook University Medical Center (SBUMC). On behalf of the Color Me OKI program, the 1950’s Automotive Classic, 1959 Pink Cadillac Series 62 Convertible will be on display as The Angeltones perform songs from the doo-wop era and commemorative photos are provided to attendees in keepsake frames.

“Walk for Beauty, Walk for Life” originally began to raise awareness about breast cancer and screening for the disease, and quickly grew into a well-attended community event with the proceeds supporting cutting-edge breast cancer research. In 2002, the Walk broadened its scope to include prostate cancer research. Researchers at SBUMC are seeking ways to diagnose both diseases earlier, as well as discover more effective and targeted therapies.

“Our community and business supporters, cancer survivors, and countless walkers have made this event a huge success over the years,” says Yvonne Spreckels, Walk for Beauty, Walk for Life co-chair and Director of Community Relations for Stony Brook University Medical Center. OKI Data America’s support of the Walk and strong community partnerships contribute to the success of the Walk. The Walk is co-sponsored by Stony Brook University Medical Center and the Ward Melville Heritage Organization.

Since its inception in 1994, “Walk for Beauty, Walk for Life” has raised around $800,000 for breast and prostate cancer research at SBUMC, the most common cancers in women and men, respectively. Proceeds from the Walk have also financed top-of-the-line cancer detection equipment, as well as wigs and other quality of life items for patients with minimal financial resources.

The Color Me OKI (www.colormeoki.com) philanthropic program uniquely pairs vintage cars with live entertainment to help support and celebrate the strong women, family and friends who are fighting breast cancer. The personal program stays true to the company’s passion for customer intimacy, which it does by engaging with customers on a one-on-one basis to understand their needs. OKI Data Americas (www.okidata.com), one of the leading printer manufacturers in the U.S., goes beyond traditional service to develop long term partnerships with each customer and make them feel like customers again.

“We are proud to support the Stony Brook community, including the physicians and staff of SBUMC and most importantly the cancer survivors, as we join together to walk for a cure,” said Stewart Krentzman, President and CEO of OKI Data Americas. “Providing the restored Pink Cadillac and the celebratory Color Me OKI experience is our way of supporting those courageously battling breast and prostate cancers, as well as their loved ones who are undoubtedly affected by the diseases.”

Color Me OKI supports the corporate philanthropic mission of Oki Electric Industry Company, Ltd., the Tokyo, Japan-based parent company of OKI Data Corporation, which is to undertake social contribution activities that help realize the genuine enrichment of society and contribute to the quality of life for people around the world.

About the Color Me OKI Philanthropic Program

The Color Me OKI philanthropic program was launched in April of 2007 after the employees of OKI Data Americas voted to adopt breast cancer as the company’s leading philanthropic cause. The backbone of the program is the “Twin Sister,” a 1955 Pink Cadillac Fleetwood that was personally restored by the company’s CEO, Stewart Krentzman and his wife Bonnie. OKI Data Americas decided to pair the vintage vehicle with a Tribute Artist and took the program on the road supporting 21 breast cancer events, while taking photos of attendees and printing them on its digital color printers.

This year, the “Twin Sister” is joined by the 1950's Automotive Classic, the 1959 Pink Cadillac Series 62 Convertible, which has also been restored to support the fight against breast cancer. In 2008 the Color Me OKI philanthropic program is also supporting colorectal cancer prevention. The program is taking the one-of-a-kind 1992 “Spirit of America” neoclassic Corsair to colorectal cancer events in order to raise awareness of such a highly preventable disease. The Color Me OKI philanthropic program, using all three cars, which are owned and maintained by Stewart and Bonnie Krentzman, will continue to spread the message of hope and inspiration to those fighting both breast and colorectal cancers in 2008.
